Announcement: DReam to Index Scholarship is Open for Applications

In memory of David K. Ream, The Friends of Dave Ream formed to offer scholarship aid for new indexers to register for indexing conferences. The scholarship took a hiatus in 2021 due to the pandemic. For 2022, we have made some adjustments to keep the scholarship active.

In 2022, the scholarship will fund four winners $300 USD each. Eligible national conferences are: the American Society for Indexing, Society of Indexers, Indexing Society of Canada, Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers, Association of South African Indexers and Bibliographers, and the International Indexing Conference planned for Berlin (October 2022). Funds can be applied to register to attend conferences in person (if the conferences are held in physical venues) or for virtual conference attendance.

In 2020, Dream scholarships were awarded to Jess Klaassen-Wright and Emily LeGrand. In 2019 Dream scholarships were awarded to Siusan Moffat and Aelfwine Mischler. In 2018, the first year of the scholarships, funds were awarded for three recipients: Travis Hale, Shannon Li, and Sarah McIntosh.

The scholarship is intended to assist newer indexers who have completed some type of formal index training (courses, apprenticeships, etc.). The award is not restricted geographically, and any indexer meeting the criteria is eligible. Since we did not make awards in 2021, we are changing the eligibility period for 2022 scholarships to include applicants who have completed formal training in the past six years (January 2016 or later).

The cut-off date for 2022 applications is March 15, 2022. Recipients will be notified by March 18, 2022. This announcement is being cross-posted. For details, visit http://dreamtoindex.com/; applications should be submitted to dreamt...@gmail.com.
