In the study group we were just discussing how the labels appear in Sky 8. You can choose to have the text appear in the label color, or to have the text remain black and the label color appear only in the left side of the grid. (In Sky 7 the entire row has the label color as a background.)

Here's where to change how the label colors appear:

Options tab > Preferences > Colors / Help> Text colors
At the bottom is a box that has "Apply label color to grid text". If you uncheck this box, the grid text will remain black and the label color will be to the left of the grid.

Happy indexing!

Thank you for this information, Ælfwine!  I didn't know about this setting! I think I prefer having the text colorized so it's more visible as I edit, but I'm going to give this option a try.

I use labels all the time when indexing. And I shared the specific labels I use (and when I use them) in a recent podcast episode. It's located here, in case anyone wants to listen.

If podcasts aren't your thing - here's a quick run-down of the labels that I use in SKY:

1.  Red: something is wrong – FIX

2.  Light Green: wildcard for grouping

3.  Light Blue: DELETE (possibly)

4.  Orange: STRANGE BUT TRUE

5.  Pink: MORE, PLEASE!– search document for more

6.  Purple: wild card for not-quite-right entries

7.  Blue: ALL SET!

8.  Burgundy: ADD SUBHEADS

9.  Dark Green: wild card for completed tasks

Does anyone else want to share the labels they use? I love hearing about other people's indexing processes :)

I love your label titles, Michelle. The Sky working group discussed this too today. We are all different!

Thank you so much, Aelfwine!!!

I noticed we can also change the program color theme. While I was tempted by the green, I ended up using the Windows color, which is sort of whitish, b/c the label colors stand out better in the margin.

All the best,

Mary
