pasting from Acrobat inserts a space before the word (Sky 8)

The discussion about making acronyms not expand and then the replies to Mary's suggestion to add a space before pasting made me realize what is happening in other areas of my index.

I haven't seen this behavior until this index. When I select and copy text from the PDF (using Acrobat DC Pro) and paste it into Sky 8, a space is automatically put before the word in Sky, which then prevents the autocomplete from working. (Now I know it's the space that's preventing the autocomplete.) I don't know if the problem is something in Acrobat or in Sky. I can't find any settings in Acrobat that would make it select the space before a word too -- but who knows? How do I prevent this space at the beginning when pasting?

This is really frustrating and slowing me down. Any ideas on a solution? Something in Acrobat? Something in Sky?

Thanks.

Hi Ælfwine,

You wrote: "I haven't seen this behavior until this index." Did you try
to copy & paste in another SKY Index file today and check if this
behaviour is the same? And did you try Resort?

Also, I assume it is only a problem when you copy & paste something into
an empty field. Because if you copy & paste within or after other words,
it shouldn't be a problem or -- if there is already a space -- the
"Remove double spaces" option should fix it.

In SKY 7 a space at the beginning in a field is automatically removed
but I haven't yet found the option which controls this behavior.

Ælfwine, I don’t how understand how Autocomplete fits into this scenario. If you’re copying and pasting from a PDF, one would presume that the term is something you have not yet entered into SKY, so Autocomplete is irrelevant at that point. Once you paste that term into SKY and proceed to the next cell, any preceding spaces will be eliminated, as Jochen has noted. So Autocomplete should kick in if you have any additional entries for that term. I just tested it in SKY 8, and it worked fine.

I also recommend updating your Autocomplete list frequently (Alt+Ctrl+U). I update my list several times an hour.

From the replies I've gotten here and on the ASI list, I wonder if I've just forgotten how Sky works, i.e. how things paste in there. This is the first index I've done in 7 months, and last year I did mostly copyediting.

I guess it is less of a problem on this index, but it can be problematic when there are diacritics or other things I'd like to autocomplete. The text might be showing only the surname at this point and I'd like the first name to autocomplete. I often also have note text or glosses in headings, so autocomplete comes into play. And if the name does have diacritics, especially in the first few characters, I sure do want to copy and paste and then have Sky autocomplete the rest.
