I have a few handheld radios that I need to update the frequencies and when I connect to the USB, it fails to connect. In device manager and Ports it says - "Please install corresponding PL2303 driver to support Windows 11 and further OS"

I have tried the installer that you linked and it is not solving the issue. I have installed, and from the installer done a complete uninstall/reboot, then install, then insert the device.. Every time the driver that is installed is ver 3.9.1.0. There is no option to roll back any further. The device continues to not function, and in the device manager the heading only reads "PL2032TA DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS 11 OR LATER, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER".

I've read through this whole thread (and a few others) and everyone is saying to go get the driver from the prolific site, although I think that's now been taken down, as every link takes me back to the site index. If I search on their site for drivers, I can go to the info page/brochure for the pl2303, but if I even click their own link to the drivers page it takes me back to the site index. I've also tried using a VPN to pretend being in the US, as I'm in the UK, no luck!

I had similar problems with PL2303 issues (Prolific USB to Serial Drivers) Windows 11 for communicating with the CELESTRON NEXSTAR+ & STARSENSE HAND CONTROLLERS. Standard USB-A PORTS on computers did not recognize the drivers and were unable to establish a connection using for connecting the USB-A to USB-B Mini Lead to the HAND CONTROLLERS.

The PL2303 v408 Driver for Windows 11 problem was immediately solved when I attached a USB-C Adaptor with USB-A Ports to the same computer and connection of the same lead to the CELESTRON NEXSTAR+ & STARSENSE HAND CONTROLLERS. The USB-C Adaptor & USB-A Ports were immediately recognized by the Drivers and allowed perfect communication.

Excellent advice. I turned your instructions into a PowerShell snippet with makes this procedure pretty quick. Just set the path to the driver files.
Attached is a screenshot of my Device Manager with 2 programming cables plugged in. (1 Yaesu, 1 Baofeng).

Just checking in what USB to serial converters you would recommend for connecting to Jazz. I have 2 Jazz processors here and I am unable to communicate with either of them. They are older models and only support serial via MJ20-PRG. I am using Unitronics serial cable p/n: MJ10-22-CS25.

I have several USB-to-Serial adapters that I have tried........I have several that are PL2303, but they all show up as "PHASED OUT SINCE 2012, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER". The one I am using is a FTDI. Could that be making the difference? I believe I have read or heard that Unitronics doesn't like the FTDI even if the driver is installed and the device is working properly. If so, I need to work at getting updated USB-Serial converters.

Reading that prolific website down farther, it says that the PL2303HXA is not supported by Win10. That may be my issue. Since I am on Windows 10 and the device manager says these converters are PL2303HXA.

You've stumbled into one of the mysteries of the computer world - USB converters not playing well with external microprocessor-based devices. I Googled "FTDI vs Prolific" and found all kinds of conflicting information, with fanboys on both sides. Sometimes FTDI works where Prolific doesn't, and vice versa. And then there is the issue of counterfeit chips, which adds another aspect of intermittent / non-functionality for both manufacturers.

Many moons ago I tried several USB converters and didn't have any luck. I can't find a definitive answer as to why something as apparently simple as a USB to serial converter may or may not work. Unitronics offers an official USB converter - part number MJ10-22-CS35 ($37US) which happens to contain a Prolific chip.

Unitronics has also been integrating a built-in USB converter on all their newer products that has the Silicon Labs chip to try to make it easier on end-users, but even this one has been known to stop talking when Windows 10 decides to update. Fortunately, Silicon Labs is good about updating the drivers on their website, so if the driver bundled with the Unitronics software doesn't work you can always go there and get the updated one.

I'd say the easiest solution for you is to contact your Unitronics distributor and get the official converter. Or you can upgrade your Jazz units to the JZ20 series that has the built-in converter. Or you can do like I do and use Dell Latitude D830s running Windows 7 as your programming computer. They're readily available on eBay and have a real serial port.

For what it's worth, I've recently gone to 1903 64 Pro on my main puter and had a devil of a time getting my Shentek 422/485 Isolated converter to work. All the supposed revamped FTDI drivers that should now work would not play correctly. In frustration I ended up finding what I had on my "no updating allowed...go away Micro$oft" earlier W10 1803 tablet, as I knew that worked OK. Found the source file in my records, and on the thoroughly up to date (but now locked down!) system it all loaded fine and works perfectly. It was 2.8.28.0 and I have zipped and attached the whole folder/file for use as needed.

We work with a lot of electronics on the side. While onto one of our projects, we had to update our machine to a new Windows 10 and snap, our favourite USB connector cable gave upon us. The message was even sadder than the wait for the update to finish and to get back to working with our tools.

More on our research pointed out there are several versions or look-alikes / copy cats / counterfeit (use as per your liking) of PL2303 are flooded out in the market, and Prolific just wanted to give us all a warning shot. Saying Hey you are using Illegal stuff. Please buy the original cables only from us.

Hurray! the message disappeared. But the issue was far from over. Now we have got a strange warning sign in from of the port number. Everything with the proper name and port number but still with the warning sign. Is it trying to warn us again about the device still being illegal and fake.

Please be warned that selling counterfeit products are illegal and punishable by civil and criminal courts according to the trademark, copyright, and intellectual properties laws and regulations. Prolific will take proper and severe actions to cease and confiscate these counterfeit products. Prolific also prohibits the distribution of any PL-2303 drivers (including download links) without written permission from Prolific.

Prolific advises end-users to only purchase vendor branded cable products with company name contact information for service and support. Prolific does not sell cables with Prolific brand and packaging. In case you suspect a counterfeit chip inside, you may also contact Prolific to provide the vendor information.

There might be chances that your machine may not be showing any specific error, everything will be normal, But the Prolific USB cable may not be working at all. In this case if your cable was working perfectly before the updates, You can try to do a rollback of your Updates and work for the time being. This solution may work for some for a little time period as you cannot be out of your updates for a long period of time. Below we have a permanent solution, which fixed our issue and will fix yours too.

Download the specific driver installer below for your machine. Complete the installation with administrator privileges. To make things easier, We have all the 64 Bit, 32 Bit and 32 Bit Direct Install bundled together into a zip file.

So let us finish this blog on a happier note and hope that your issue has been resolved to the fullest. Please let us know in the comments section if it worked out for you. If you found out a different solution please let us know and we will add it over here with your due credits.

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

I have an IOGear USB to Serial, but it's not happy on my Windows 10 laptop with the supplied drivers. I am unable to find a silicon labs CP2104 based cable in the US. Prolific PL2303 and FTDI (?) are available. Any suggestions for chipset or specific cable?

Maybe it's just old drivers from the CD? Did you already tried to identify the chipset and go download drivers from the actual chipset manufacturer? It's a common thing with branded stuff, they give you drivers but never update them even if the actual chipset manufacturer makes a new version. For most serial-USB chipsets they have been just updating the same drivers of the same chipsets for nearly a decade, there is no point in making a new design.
See -log.com/en/windows_search-driver-by-hardwareids/ for example on how to get the device ID and search
I've had good luck just pasting the device ID in this site
