Cessna hires, recalls 150 workers in Wichita

Cessna Aircraft Co. is hiring to keep up with an increase in demand, adding about 150 jobs back to a recession-depleted workforce in Wichita, Kan.

The Wichita Eagle reported that the new hires and recalled workers will be assigned to production lines, with additional sales staff also being hired.
The job gains still leave Cessna’s Wichita employment well below the nearly 12,000 workers employed in 2008; the company slashed its workforce amid the economic collapse, and currently employs about 4,850 in Wichita and 7,800 worldwide.

A Cessna spokesman did not immediately return an email and telephone message seeking comment and additional details.

Cessna revenues have climbed, with $669 million reported in the first quarter of 2012, up from $556 million in the first quarter of 2011. Losses dropped from $38 million in the first quarter of 2011 to $6 million in the first quarter of this year.
