Thank you, very much indeed , dear Anand Sahib!

I am happy to read the same. Like any academician and say another RDSO man, when sufficent ly huge funds are spent and one obtains a glamorus toy, this much presentation is in order. The fact that even after spending these amounts, only speeds of 300 to 350 kmph are talked about- not 600 kmph!! Actually normal rail based system at less than one third the cost, reaches 300 kmph!

When one is rich, he can travel in Bentley at the same speed of 40 kmph on our roads, while I may do so at 30 kmph in an auto! The cost benefit analysis for the society is equally important!

But let me admit, I also would like to get a Bentley!

Why not Maglev- because we love to have it to advance our technological base- but not for benefit of procurers’ kickbacks.

China has the world’s largest reserves of the basic minerals to make magnetic devices- and entre world almost depends on them for supply. In fact that country has quietly developed the rare earth resources very intensively- and future is sought to be controlled thus. Maglev they took from Siemens and actually set up entire lab for own technology development in the process- with a view to exploit their own strength of the world’s largest reserves ov the basic mineral to make magnets. They have strategic approach. We end up being procurers every time technology is to be improved and never developed the next generation technology based on that, but happily import again after decade improved versions! Nor do we have such vast reserves of the basic minerals to make magnetic devices.

Still as an engineer if some one gives me funds, no problem enjoying the techology details of Maglev and write a few papers in the international seminars extolling the same and making my country proud too!

People also enjoy the rides on Maglev, even if it is only at 250kmph,  just as a few lacs of Delhites enjoy the rides on the white elephant at the expense of rest of the nation!

With best wishes Sir!
