In a voiceover, Selene comments about the 'endless war': "I don't feel 'victory'; this never ends. (About Kandrill's Last Words) He might be right. We are the Hunted. But as long as I have him (Michael), I'm all right. As long as we're together, I can live forever..."
Created as a tie-in for the Underworld Trilogy home media release, Endless War is a set of three anime shorts set at different time periods during the storyline of the main franchise. It is anime-esque in design, created by Lakeshore Entertainment and Titmouse, Inc. animation house. And, they aren't bad. They certain evoke the inherent cool of the franchise, while going hard on the action and violence that fans actually want from an "endless war" between vampires and werewolves. The story here is just about as incomprehensible as the main movies (anyone looking for deep storytelling in the Underworld franchise really needs to look elsewhere) but when it comes to action, these shorts deliver.
This really is a great setup, it's hard to believe it was finished in 2 days. On the other hand, there are a few kinks that could be worked out. And I think it's worth updating! I've only beaten easy mode so far, but I had so many monsters I was even a little disappointed when I ran out of stuff to buy with all the gold. Maybe it should have an endless mode.
I love the underworld franchise and this was a nice little addition to it. Its a 17 minute long short anime film, that tells a simple story but has exciting action and serves as a prequel to Awakening, the fourth film in the franchise and the weakest. The animation style was nice it conveyed the edgy darkness the series is known for rather well, yet this would've been more exciting in live action for me. Also the voice acting is decent yet it was kind of sad to not have Kate Beckinsale voicing Selene. However, this was still really good and my love for this franchise means I will take any bit of content I can.
Overall Rating: 9/10.
Why this endless time of skyrocketing heating bills and bone-wearying shoveling? Why this sentence of home detention when, racked with cabin fever, we hunker down by the fire or get fuzzy-brained before the TV?
Like all etiological myths, this one explains why something came about. Variations on this origin of the changing seasons appear in other myths. Aphrodite retrieves her lover, the vegetation god Adonis, from the underworld, where he must spend one third of the year. In ancient Sumer, goddess Inanna descends into the underworld to meet with her sister Ereshkigal. In Egypt, goddess Isis searches for her murdered-and-dismembered brother/husband Osiris. Her tears of mourning make the Nile rise, and thus the vegetation god Osiris comes alive again.
"In the Seventies," continues Hyde in an apparent freefall of endless thoughts, much like his stream of consciousness lyrics, "Robert Fripp wrote that people had to 'corporate-think' and be these little groups of people who have got skills and can exchange ideas and information and support one another. We always loved that idea and now it's happening. So we have these networks all over the place that all support each other. Now we send files around the world to people to jam on. Be it music, images, words, whatever, we get these laptop jams going with our network of people and we just share ideas, information. And, of course, nowadays with the laptop we don't have to be limited by studio time. We can work where we want, whenever we want. Which is incredibly freeing."
