Hi Everyone

Please see email below and attachment.

It appears that Para World sailing has somewhat painted themselves into a corner.  Many of us knew from the outset that there is no other viable option to replace the SKUD with!  It now appears that time may very well prove us right, but we have a long way to go yet.  We need to embrace the opportunity and work with Para World Sailing and show them that SKUD should be included as a future Paralympic Class.

I know many SKUD teams will have ceased to exist and some may have sold their boats and equipment as they would have felt there was no future for the SKUD as a Paralympic Class, this is understandable however we now have a real chance to get the SKUD back in but we all need to do our bit to make this happen.  Can anyone else make it to the upcoming worlds? (an extremely long shot)  Who can make it to the EUROSAF Championships being held in Gdynia, Poland in July?  I know this is a big ask.  If we don’t get a good fleet at either event can anyone suggest a regatta that people can get to and easily ship boats to?  What would people think of having say 3 or 4 regattas at the same venue over a 12 month time frame?  This would save on the huge cost of moving boats from regatta to regatta and often country to country.  I think we really need to look at ways of reducing the costs to the teams but still have plenty of good sailing.

Please share your thoughts with the group.

Kind regards

Tim Dempsey

Hello,
You may already know the situation about the situation with regards to sailing in the Paralympics and the current classes of boats that have been selected as PWS equipment.
Shortly, the Para World Sailing Championships will be held during Kiel Week, Germany, at which the Hansa 3.03 will make its debut as a single person boat with a male and a female division. Also the SKUD 18 has also been included in the regatta, so there is still a semblance of hope that the SKUD 18 is still in the eyes of the PWSC as the 2 person boat. As you will see in the attached document the Hansa 3.03 has been embraced well as a single person boat, however there has been very little interest in the 2 person boats.
To impress the PWSC that the SKUD 18 is a viable and most impressive craft more entries need to participate in all events that PWS fleets are invited.
Next month, July, the EUROSAF Championships are being held in Gdynia, Poland, to which the Hansa 3.303 and the SKUD 18 are the classes that will be sailed. This is a huge chance not to be missed to show that these Hansa boats are worthy of being included as PWS equipment for future Paralympics.
The IHCA needs all National Hansa Class Associations to be diligent in their support to ensure the SKUD 18 class is alive and well.
I am urging ALL NHCA committees to contact all SKUD 18 owners/sailors as soon as possible to support the push to reinvigorate the SKUD 18 fleet towards being the 2 person PWS boat.
Please read the attachment as it gives more insight into the huge opportunity that the Hansa classes, especially the SKUD 18, have going forward into the future.

If your association has had a change of committee/representative during the past 12 months please ensure they are sent on to the IHCA as we like to keep in communication.

Hi John,

I share the concern about the future of the Skud and the path being taken by PWS.

Hi John and SKUD group:

I am putting my hand up as a “sometimes follower” of this space.

While I would like to participate in the SKUD Class, I am simply out of bandwidth and time.

However, for anyone who is interested, I still have JP and Jen’s Silver Medal SKUD-18 that I was going to attempt to use in Rio, before I broke my shoulder. So, if anyone is interested in this boat, they should contact me.

Sincere thanks,

Paul

Hi John

Thanks for your response.

I’m not sure that this is still a relevant way of communicating with the SKUD fleet, are we better to use the SKUD 18 Facebook Page, what do others think?

Any suggestions of a good venue to base the fleet at for a year?  It needs to be central to as many teams as possible and we need to have access to boat storage at reasonable rates.

PLEASE ENTER THE DISCUSSION PEOPLE EVEN IF JUST TO SAY KEEP US IN THE LOOP!

Regards

Tim

Hands up from Rick.  I'm still sailing hull 0002 (MK1 unaltered) in a local PHRF fleet and have yet to see a suitable high-performance alternative for quads, like me, to sail comfortably.
