Interest earned on Recurring Deposit

Dear friends,

I am aware that interest earned on Savings Bank account up to Rs.10000/- is not taxable.

I want to know whether Interest earned on Recurring Deposit is taxable because banks do not deduct TDS on the same. Moreover Recurring Deposit is also like Savings.

Kindly clarify.
