Integration with PiFinder

What do you think about connecting SkEye to a PiFinder (a plate solving raspberry pi, see https://www.pifinder.io/ / https://pifinder.eu/ / https://github.com/brickbots/PiFinder) ?

I think it would be a perfect combo :)

ps. using this channel as the uservoice improvement channel seem down.

Hello Hans,

Thanks for bringing this up. I have come across PiFinder, but haven't used it myself.

My hope was to rely on the phone camera and evolve the Sky Cam app, but I realize that not all phone cameras are capable enough (even in 2026) to capture enough stars for plate solving. Also, having a dedicated device has its own unique advantages and disadvantages.

So yes, I am very open to connecting SkEye with PiFinder. I will update here when I get a chance to do it.

Sorry for shutting down the uservoice forum. They suddenly changed their terms and increased the pricing beyond what I could sustain.

On the bright side, the data hasn't been lost. In fact, I am building an alternative to that forum and have imported all the past ideas and comments into it. Here's a sneak peek:
