Hi,

After you have added alignments, the map view should show an icon with a right-angled arrow on it. It will appear on the left-bottom side of the map. This icon indicates that Indirect Mode is active. Clicking the icon opens the Indirect Mode view which shows the list of alignments and allows you to delete them.

You can also open the Indirect Mode view through the Menu too. To bring up the Menu you can click the button or double tap anywhere. If your phone has a menu button, that works too.

best,
Harshad

Ok, but how to force hand-held mode?  I like to switch back and forth at times.  I can prefer hand-held for learning star names, but then mount on the scope for navigation.  If I go to hand-held I don't want to lose all my alignments.  I'm thinking of some nice simple toggle: hand-held/indirect, maybe with some message indicating which is active.

I have avoided providing that option, because once you unmount the phone, you may not be able to mount it back in the exact orientation as before, and the difference will make the alignments invalid. So, if you want to take it hand-held, the app enforces that you delete the alignments, and add them again.

However, sometimes one might be willing to sacrifice accuracy for convenience, and I can see how this option might be useful. I will consider adding that option in the future. Feel free to add it as an idea here: https://skeye.uservoice.com/

You know, now that you just say it, that makes perfect sense.  My mount is exactly stable, so it would be ok for me, but your caution is wise.  All I can say is that perhaps this should be explained in the doc: "To return to hand-held mode, simply delete all alignments.  Note, alignments can't be 'saved' because if one were to try to return to indirect mode after using hand-held mode, the mount on the telescope might not be exactly the same, thus making any saved alignments useless -- best to align again."   BTW, I haven't checked if this is still the case, but in the older version, you could align to a star several times and the older alignments were still kept, is this wise?  If I align to Vega again, it is surely because I'm not happy with the previous alignment, so why not have it automatically deleted?

When adding an alignment, the momentary alt-az location of the object is used for computation. The name is recorded just for reckoning. When you add a second alignment to Vega, it would have moved in alt-az, and hence it would be considered a new, separate alignment.

Ah!  That makes perfect sense now that  you explain, thanks.
