SkEye version 5.4 and Pro 2.6

What's new?

• Bumped the number of stars: upto mag 8 in free version and upto mag 10 in Pro.
  Note that the file-sizes of the app are now larger. About 1MB and 2.5MB respectively.
  
• Satellites:
• Night mode for satellite display
• Show satellite's international designation in description. This is very useful; see below.
  
• Satellites below horizon are now shown less prominently - reduces clutter.
  
• New app icons! Created by a Jeffrey Jang, a professional designer who was kind enough to donate his time to this project.
  Note the new icons or you might not find them in the launcher :)
  
• An improved API which will return more information to apps that interface with SkEye. There are two apps that are already using this API and two more unreleased ones.
  More details about the API are here.
  
• Some enhancements to polish the user interface. For example, the description of the objects in Search dialog is now placed optimally in portrait mode.
  
• Avoid a Force Close and continue correctly when detecting the graphics capability in some devices.
  

Satellite International Designation
This designation is assigned by WDC-A-R&S to all rockets and satellites and has three fields,

• The year of the launch
  
• The number of the launch in that year
• The piece of that launch (if there are multiple payloads, for example)

Here's an example, Phobos Grunt has a designation of 11-065-A which means it was launched in 2011 and it was the 65th launch in 2011.

Moreover, there are many satellites which have the same name but different designations. For example there are 18 satellites named SL-8 R/B and previously it was not possible to identify them individually in SkEye. It is possible now in this update because their designations are different.

PS. As usual, I will first update on SlideMe and AndroidPit, and slowly roll the release to the Market if all goes well.

Hello Harshad!

The weather here, after a long hiatus, is finally clear: if this
situation persists until night, I will be observing for sure.

I've already prepared a mounting scheme (using velcro strips) to hold
my Android phone to the secondary cage of the telescope, so as to be
able to use SkEye Pro in sensor-mode concurrently with Astromist plus
the scope DSCs and compare their precision.

Can you email me this latest version so I can use it instead of the
previous one?

Hey Harshad   Ron Collins here had skeye on my htc incredible  and worked fine. Just got the 5.4 and now I cant pick lineaments stars in derict mode. Phone model #ADR6300, android ver 2.3.4, baseband ver 2.15.10.07.07, build # 4.08.605.2 CL185897 release-keys Software #4.08.605.2.  Need help or where can I get the ver before 5.4.   Thanks Ron collins         -------Original Message-------

Ron,

I figured out what the problem is: when in portrait mode, we can't select objects in the search and alignment screens. A quick work around is to use landscape mode.

I am rolling out a new release with a fix right away.

Update:
I made the fix and released the whole update to Android Market as well. Thanks again Ron for reporting the bug.

The new version numbers are are 5.4.1 and Pro 2.6.1
