Hi!

I am excited to announce a new app, SkEye Cam, with an ability to plate solve in real time!

This is a test release with many rough edges. If you are blessed with clear skies and interested in helping test it out, please reply to me directly with details about your phone model.

A user guide for the app is available here:
... which will give you an idea about how it looks like, and whether you have the time to fiddle with it.

cheers,
Harshad

Hi all,

After some testing, especially thanks to Brewster, I am feeling a little more confident about the app. Here's an accuracy report for the app:

So, I have rolled out SkEye Cam as a public beta now. Which means anyone can download it directly from the play store here:

If you get a chance to try it, do let me know how it goes.

best,

Hi!

Would be interesting :)  But so far only Jupiter is visible. By the end of the month we'll get a bit of darkness.

Laters!

:)

SkEye Cam is out of beta testing! 0.7 is the latest release. Changes from last email:

* Ability to capture a batch of images (stacking has to be done outside the app, for now)

* Cross-hairs are overlaid on the captured image and can be moved around to align with telescope's view. This provides a quick and surprisingly effective way to get PushTo guidance. Accuracy is only limited by camera's resolution and your alignment accuracy. Without plate-solving, this is akin to a dynamic finder-scope. With plate-solving you get an overlay of object names as well.

* To help with precise alignment, the camera image can now be zoomed.

* Many improvements to the Calibration interface. There are more settings, namely, Gradient Removal and Margin. And you can use touch gestures to quickly align the view.

* Some DSO objects are now included: Messier catalog and a selection of bright NGC objects. I will be adding more soon.

best,
Harshad
