I find that with most projects I like to build the parts then assemble
the piece. This is most useful when doing mortise and tenon
casework. I'm having alot of trouble with the assembly step. The
pieces are pushing into each other... not snapping surface to surface,
but overlapping.

I'm not sure if I should be building this way, or I'm missing an
essential step or idea.

Thanks

I don't know why this is happening, but I build my assemblies the same
and put them together. I find it simpler to draw the stiles and rails
separately(with mortises & tenons on them) and then move them
together. Are you grouping or making components out of each piece
(rails,stiles,etc.)?

The subject line needs Sketchup or something like
SKUP in all subject lines so we can tell it is not spam.

I think the moderator and owner have abandoned this list.

if not, contact me and I will tell you how to fix/change it

Here is a link to a tutorial explaining this.

I am having the same problem.  Parts don't snap into alignment and the move tool is not as precise.  Building frame and panel doors right now.  Struggled through drawing stiles, making it a group, copy, flip and dado and mitered.  Same with the rails.  Now it's off on one plane or another.  Trying to making them match jumps from one misplaced spot to another. Seems like there should be some kind of tool to make surfaces match up and not twisted or out of plane. Zooming in and fitting one corner, only to find the other corners are now out of whack.  I could not get to that blog site as my computer says it's invalid address. So anyone have a simple answer?

Doesn't seem to have many people who are knowledgeable with Sketch up to offer ideas to solve our assembling challenges after making each component.  Are we all simply beginners on this blog?  My post has been on for weeks and no one has posted anything since.
