Creating layers after-the-fact?

I have built a aquarium stand and canopy in Sketchup and didn't know about creating layers when I started.  There is an inner frame, an outer frame, doors and dimensions in my sketchup.  I have created several scenes with everything hidden except the item I wanted to view in the scene.  Can I create layers out of each scene or are layers something I needed to create as I built up the object.
