I would like to put a label midway between two points without hand calculation. With the restrictions of operators on points is there a way to do this?

Sure you can do this.  What restrictions do you mean?  That you can't add two points?  Just add a half-vector: The midpoint of points (a) and (b) is (a) + 0.5 * ((b) - (a)).

Cheers!
