Hi,

Do we have a confirmed date for next meeting?

Next Wednesday, April 15th at 6:30pm will be our next meeting date.
If you plan on attending, let us know (it will help with estimating
the number of pizzas to get).

I'll be there (so get a lot :-)

I was talking with Brian McNamara and Joe O'Pecko at a conference
recently and we came up with some interesting hacking idea for the
meeting. But I can't remember what it was. Guys, if you're reading this,
and if I'm not just hallucinating, and if you remember... let me know.

FYI all-

We now have a guest wireless network set up here at Skarven, so you'll
all be able to get on the internet now....

I think I remember the conversation David is referring to. If,
however, what follows is a horrible idea, I'll take the blame for it
since I can't be 100% sure my memory is accurate.

Perhaps we could try a coding dojo
(http://codingdojo.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WhatIsCodingDojo) at one of our
meetings. There is a link to a KataCatalogue available on the front
page of this site with some exercises. Additionally, a few years ago
Dave Thomas put together a number of code katas
(http://codekata.pragprog.com/), which may also be suitable material
for this type of meeting too.

I don't think we'd be able to pull this off effectively next week. I'm
certainly not ready to lead something like this right now but maybe we
could discuss the potential of trying something like this and gauge
interest next Wednesday for a future meeting?

I also found this blog post
(http://faithfulgeek.tumblr.com/post/70857749/randori-all-inclusive-user-group-hackfest)
from a member of the Cleveland Ruby Brigade with his experience using
the Randori style at a user group meeting.

BTW, I'll be attending next week. See you then.

i'll do my best to make it.  i'll have a better idea by the end of the week.

david....i do remember having some good conversations.  i'm not going to say you were hallucinating, but i can't seem to remember any specifics either.  i know we tossed the idea of pairing around at the end of the last meeting.  i think that could be a good start.  joe and i went to corey haynes' software journeyman presentation at the philly ete conference.  i think it would be a good idea if we could do the occasional hackfest on a saturday.  he mentioned doing the game of life every hour.  i'd be lying if i said i knew what that was but i think it entailed doing a repetitive exercise to reinforce the notion of practicing a craft.  maybe that's something we could talk more about....

take care,
brian

See you all next week.  I'll be there.

Although it would be interesting to code together, I'm not sure if I want to do it in NJRUG meeting considering the fact that it's what I do all day.  I really enjoy having intelligent conversation about the programming language we all love.  Having a high level discussion and bouncing off ideas with fellow Rubyists isn't what I get anywhere else other than this once a month meeting.  Without sounding like a total dork, code kata is something I do when I'm alone as Dave(Thomas) does too, I think...

Just my $.02.

I think I agree about code kata, though I'd prefer not to rule out doing
something code-related at a meeting at some point. Maybe it's because
I'm not doing as much of it as I'd like during the day :-) Anyway,
whatever the brilliant idea I had last week seems to have flown.

I'm apologize for this being the last minute but something has come up
and I'm unable to attend the meeting this evening.

I hope to see you all next month.

If possible, and not too much trouble, could someone post the details
of this evenings meeting in a new thread? Thanks.

Regards, Joe
