Hello all:

Tomorrow we will hold our May Skarven RUG meeting.

-- Jim Nicholson will demonstrate HAML, SASS, and Compass. The example will be his blogging platform with features that approach WordPress.

-- Brian McNamara will provide an overview of an activerecord interface to the electronic medical records application he's using at Hunterdon Healthcare.

-- Food and refreshments will be provided.

Please let us know if you plan on attending.  We hope to see you all there!

I'm developing a sore throat :-( I have to fly on Sunday so I'm very
eager not to get a cold since that's murder on the ears. Let me see how
I'm doing a little later.

I've just started sneezing, and in general am not feeling well. I'm
afraid I'm not gonna make it. I wish it were otherwise. It sounds like a
good session, and a rare chance to drive to Skarven in good weather!!
:-) But I'm definitely coming down with something. Damned human body.

Have fun, friends, and I hope I'll make it next time.

Something came up.  Won't make it.  Jim & Brian, I would be forever grateful if you'd post the slides and code.

thanks to the skarven folks for hosting a good meeting last night - and for being a good audience for a first-time presenter at a meeting.  those who couldn't make it were missed.

we threw around ideas for the next meeting - the idea of doing a coding dojo was brought up again.  i, for one, would like to try it.  even if it sucks i still think it's worth doing at least once.

thanks!
brian

ps - anyone besides cliff going to goruco?

I'm glad it went well, and sorry I missed it.

Do you mean code kata? If you really mean dojo then I'm not sure I know
what it is.

joe, if i get this one wrong please feel free to correct me.

basically, the dojo lays out the format of the meeting.  we could use the paris dojo and, within the meeting itself, use the randori kata.  essentially the dojo gives the overall meeting structure - review what was done previously, plan what to do for current meeting, plan for next meeting - while the randori kata drills more into the 'what to do for the current meeting.'

the randori kata seems like it would be fun.  everyone will have the ability to participate and, as a beginner, it would give me the ability to see what practices could be applied to a given problem.  even for thsose who have been programming professionally within our group it should be interesting to see how other people solve problems.  plus, it's social - everyone can participate.

thanks!
