I've installed the Kinect SDK 1.8 with Skanect 1.8 installed, but a pop up message appears saying "failed to initialize sensor" any solution to fix this?

I'm using windows 7 64bit, gtx 960, and yes my kinect has its own power the green LED blinks on it constantly.

have you checked your control panel/system/device manager to see if all 4 parts of the kinect are working properly.

I had a bad power adapter and it kept bouncing in/out from one to 4 then back to one, etc continually. This sucked. turned out to be not enough juice.    I have had 3 adapters go bad in a year  luckily they are around 5 dollars on ebay/amazon.
if you have one device showing, then it is probably not getting power at all, but the usb connection works. hence check the power light on the break out next to the kinect plug/usb split.  if you have all 4 working properly, it should be functional.
