I am wondering if anybody can offer good tips. It seems like setting the dimensions as 1x2x1 is smart, making a bigger bounding box etc. but how about kinect placement. Should it start looking at the person or start facing away. Should it start at the feet of the person or the head. Etc. Anybody with experience please let me know

You're right to use 1x2x1, you should actually probably do ever so slightly bigger in case the subject isn't totally centered and such. Best way to determine a good placement is to watch the heat map in the preview zone before starting a scan, RED means good. Where you start with a person doesn't really matter but I typically start at the head and move down, that way in case it fails later on from loss of tracking or the person shifting, I at least have a decent bust.

Hi Willy,

I start my scan at waist height and at the back. I focus my first pass on getting the lower body scanned all the way around and then do a final pass on the head. This seems to work well for me. I've also had great success in scanning in thirds, meaning: Starting at waist height (to centre the subject in the cube), I scan first the lower part all the way around, move up and scan the middle and then finally do a pass on the head.

I would start with the head but the way the 1x2x1 cube appears to be set up, the subject has to be in the middle which places the scanner at waist height. If we could tell Skanect to either start at the top of the volume or the bottom, it would give us more options on how we tackle the scanning process. Also as Moheeb points out, we can at least get a good bust scan out of it :)
