Hey guys,

I have the the option of getting an iSense sensor for a decent price. As far as I'm aware the iSense is exactly the same as the Structure sensors, am I correct on that?
Does the 3D Systems iSense sensor work with Skanect, or would I be throwing money away with this deal?

Hi Roel'

I have the 3d Systems Sense hand held and it works fine with Skanect. I believe the hand held unit and the iSense use the same chipset. I'm using the latest OpenNI drivers.

Hate to be a party poopper but the isense will not work with skanect, nor will it work with any Occipital Product.  3Dsystems has not updated the firware and Occipital will not support it.
any of the cool apps that recently have been released for the Structure device will not work with the isense... I too purchased one recently, and even contaced support for both Skanect and Occipital apps,
and was told that the isense would not be supported.... the apps for the isense are kinda sucky and does not produce the same quality scans as the structure with updated firmware....

just a bad scene buying an isense at the moment, 3d systems have not updated their firware for it, and when i contacted them more than a month ago, they said they would be releasing something... but nothing
has appeared...

here is the copy and paste of the message from Occipital:

Hi Walter,

Thanks for reaching out.

At this time, the Skanect software supports only the sensors listed on our download page:http://skanect.occipital.com/download/

These include the following:

  • Structure Sensor
  • Asus Xtion
  • Primesense Carmine
  • Kinect for Xbox 360
  • Kinect for Windows
We do not support iSense sensors at this time. iSense is fully compatible with 3D Systems software.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Best,
Crystal

Thanks for the info Walter.
Im glad I haven't pulled the trigger on that purchase yet. I could get the iSense for less than a Structure sensor, but it would still be a very expensive paper weight.
