Hello,
I can't get my xbox 360 kinect to work with Skanect (or to work in general...)
Point is, all 4 components show up in device manager, green light blinks, USB hub only has Kinect plugged in.
I tried Kinect Studio and it also won't see the device, but they show up in device manager... I can't figure this out!
I'm using Windows 10 pro, SDK 1.8, Skanekt 1.9 and latest Nvidia drivers.
What am I missing?

Do you have the Kinect for Xbox 360 sensor (Model 1414) with the AC power adapter for connecting to a PC? There are two different versions of the Model 1414 sensor: One for connecting to an Xbox and the other for connecting to a PC (and an Xbox). For example, here is an AC power adapter similar to the one that I use to connect a Kinect for Xbox 360 sensor to my MacBook: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Adaptor-Kinect-Xbox-360/dp/B004UPPAE2

Yes it is the 1414 model with an adapter that I purchased here https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B008OAVS3Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
As I said my PC is recognising the device and all his 4 parts in device manager, just won't let me use it tho.

Hello,

I'm on windows 10 (1803). Same problem.
My solution : delete all things on your pc with word "kinect" "Xbox" "openNi" etc.
restart
install classic KinectSDK-v1.8-Setup.

Hope it's help.

Please do not use a USB Hub if at all possible plug directly into the built in usb port. I have had had issues with hubs or any exensions of the usb cable that adds to the usb/power adapter. I do know for a fact that you CANNOT use a usb extension cable with the breakout cord. if you need a longer cable use the NYKO Xbox extension cable instead., otherwise you will run into the issue with it not finding or dropping off intermitedly. (this is a kinect issue, not skanect issue)

I tried front panel of tower, back USB, and dedicated PCi USB card. Front USB has the Kinect recognised but in device manager only two parts of 4 show up, it seems like PCI USB is the better one for windows to recognize it but it won't still let me use it.
I haven't yet tried again to uninstall every driver and software as mentioned above, but I'll do it tomorrow and get back to you all

I tried again, clean install of the 1.8 SDK, removed every other driver/software but still the same problem.
I'm also on build 1803 so I was hoping this would work...

Hello,

In addition to the Kinect for Windows SDK (v1.8) did you also install the Developer Toolkit?

Just in case you have not seen this yet, there is some additional information on the Kinect for Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) download page with more detailed environmental requirements and installation instructions.

Scott, I tried with and without the DevKit, same result...
And Tobby, I am running Skanect 1.9.1 as of now and yet no luck.
Kinda want to give up, but it drives me crazy how this seems a problem without solution

I may be wrong but i thought 1.9.1 was the latest version? I know it fixed the shapeways issue and a few others. perhaps worth a little try to do the minor update?

I am going to grasp at straws here, but I will ask another question.
In Device Manager, are all 4 devices showing up as Kinect? Are 2 or just one showing up?

I had it continuously toggle from 4 to 1, etc which annoyed me at one time, and i found out the Adapter was flakey, i replaced with another new one and it was fine. If using the Kinect 1.8 SDK all 4 devices should show up. ...Camera, motor, etc.etc.

If all 4 are showing up, you can test with the kinect  SDK apps to make sure it communicates?

They all show up, no toggling/flashing. How can I test with SDK apps? Every software I open that requires the Kinect won't detect it. Only the OS is showing it... Maybe I'll buy another Adapter and test that but I don't think that's the issue

the SDK should have installed to your Program Files or Program Files (x86 folder)
it has been awhile since i have played around in the SDK

Hi all, after weeks of despair I purchased another adapter in a effort to make all this frustration go away.
Little did I Know it was all it took to make Skanect work with my Kinect. Now everything is fine and I even purchased the license so thanks to everyone for their time and efforts, it was much appreciated

I am glad that take took care of the issue.   When i was 3d scanning at comic conventions in 2015, i carried a few spare adapter/kinect360s  almost every issue turned out to be the adapter.

Great news! Thank you for being so persistent in resolving this issue, I had run out of troubleshooting suggestions.
