Hi Robert, unfortunately, GPU acceleration is not available for AMD GPUs in Skanect.

You can still enjoy CPU fusion, of course, which should give you similar results.

Nicolas,

Thank you for the reply. Could you please ellaborate on what you mean by CPU Fusion?  How do I configure the software this way?

Thanks!
Robert

You can change it in Skanect settings, but it should already be the default, if your GPU is not supported.

Nicolas,

Here is a capture of my settings.  The sensor is not plugged in right now, reason for that not showing as connected.  However, the GPU has the line through it and the CPU is selected.  Just like you said.  When I attempt to scan something, the image is not showing up.  An ideas?  I am pushing the record button, waiting for the countdown.... nothing shows up.

Thanks!
Robert

Hi Robert,

Maybe it's the sensor which is not recognized? Can you send us your
log file when the sensor is plugged it? CPU mode should work fine.

Thanks,
Nicolas

My late 2012 iMac has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M, but Skanect doesn't recognize the GPU either. Should it?

Can you send us your log file (Settings / Open Log File)? Many the
memory is not large enough? We hanve't tried it with a 640M.

Thanks,
Nicolas

Hi Bob,

Thanks for sharing your log file in private. It seems that the cuda
drivers are missing, can you try to download them from here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html ? Anyway, 512Mo
is a bit low for GPU scanning, Skanect will probably complain about
that then.

Hi,

I had the same issue. Installed the Cuda-driver on my MacBook Pro and now GPU is available. Woohoo! Perhaps mention this clearly in the README/Install-notes?

We've an "Addtional Setup" section in the download page, but we should
probably add something at the first run of the software, noted!

Did you have to restart for this to take? I installed the drivers but is still not allowing me to use the GPU.

I'm having the same issue on a Macbook Pro 13" mid 2009 (8G) with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. Tried the CUDA driver download, no result (GPU unavailable. Can you advise if there are any simple steps I can try to self-diagnose before sending a log file?

On checkiing my sys rep for the machine it looks as if the 9400M only has access to 256M, which is probably the reason why CUDA will not kick off.

Oh well :(
