Hello,

Anyone can help me to find if is possible I upload a OBJ or PLY file on skanect just for Skanect edition or to convert for another format?
When I try to upload Skanect just let me upload  SKN files

Thank you

This is not a supported feature, but you can hack it by making a scan,
and then using the "Open in External Editor" feature. Just replace the
.ply file of the scan by the file you want to edit.

I actually did that the other day just as a cheesy way to quickly upload to Shapeways. :)

Hi,

It's been a while since the topic was on the board, yet i find myself a similar problem.

I wonder what Nicolas meant by "Open in External Editor". My situation is that i have these "processed.ply", "captured.ply", "captured.rcm" and "model.obj" file. You meant to change .ply extension for .skn at "processed.ply" file and then import changed extension file ("processed.skn")?

For now i need to go back to the model has been made time ago and i don't have possibility of making the scan again. Also i find that GPU in not available.

Thank you

Tto open a ply file and save as another, create a new scan.
you will be using this dummy scan as the folder(s) to load the ply file.
1. Make sure within the scan you have the ply in MESHES, and the subfolder EXTERNAL.
2. You will copy the file into that folder and name the file edit_me.ply
3. Go into PROCESS Tab
4. Click on RELOAD EDITED MESH FROM DISK
5. Go to the SHARE tab and EXPORT MODEL into any of the available formats.

Always remember that skanect saves all the data offline as well and you can just reload the skn file and reconstruct fromt he captured data via the RECONSTRUCT fromt he FUSION button
it can do an offline reconstruciton of the scan in CPU mode if you cannot use GPU. It will be slower, but still do the job if you have the original skn folder.
of course you will have to do the editing again when doing this method, but its possible to change from high to very high and get a better point cloud mesh.
