Hey group,

Desperately trying to get up and going as I have an event that this setup is bound for this next monday. If anyone has any ideas I'd be very happy to hear them.

Device - ASUS XtionPro Live
System - Windows 8
Laptop - Qosmio X-75-A7295, i7 NVIDIA GeGorce GTX 770M

Description of Problem:
1. Plug in XtionPro Live sensor
2. Run Skanect
3. Error! - Not enough USB controller resources (the controller does not have enough resources for this device)

I've asked the google for help and poked around device manager. Anybody have any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks!

Luke

Does NiViewer work fine (from OpenNI2 samples)? There seem to be a
range of Asus laptops having issues with USB3. Primesense is aware of
some of them, but no fix yet :(

If it works fine with NiViewer, then there is more hope for a fix.

I have had the same problem. It is so frustrating!

NiViewer doesn't work as well. Joe, do you hear anything from Primesense?

Hi Adrian, primesense don't know, they are saying maybe windows problem.

See the thread here: https://c.getsatisfaction.com/openni/topics/error_not_enough_usb_controller_resources?utm_content=reply_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=reply_notification#reply_12888100

What machine and version of windows are you running?

I hope primesense will take ownership of the issue and fix it now that they are aware. As the customer we shouldn't have to do their r&d for them.

Joe, did you try emailing them directly?
I got a response from them in a day or two on another enquiry/

Hi Joe, thanks for the update. I hope they can really solve this issue. I specially bought a gaming laptop for Skanect, and it isn't really cheap as well.

I am using the new Asus G750JX ROG Gaming Laptop. The specs are quite powerful:

Processor: Intel Core i7 4700HQ
RAM: 12GB
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 770M
OS: Win 8 64-bit

All 4 usb ports are USB3.0.

I tried connecting Xtion Pro Live and Carmine 1.09. Both gives the same problem "Not enough USB Controller Resources".

I thought it could be due to USB3.0. But I just realised that when connected to another older Acer laptop via USB3.0 port too, they work! This Acer laptop runs on Win 7 though.

Now I start to wonder, could it really be Windows?

How about you Joe and Luke?

I the same boat.  I have noticed it isn't just the Xtion in my case, but appears to be issue with other USB devices as well, e.g. Arduino boad, where I had to remove and plug it back in for it to work properly.  Not the case here.  I do not get any errors, but I no longer get depth or image updates and have to close Skanect an reopen it.  I get about 15 seconds of capture, then it freezes.

Okay lots of people with this issue. Commonality seems to be:

Processor: Intel Core i7 4700HQ

Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 770M
OS: Win 8 64-bit

My machine http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4634#sp

It has a hybrid eSATA/USB(2.0) Combo port and the issue still occurs so eliminate USB 3.0

Question 1 is anyone running windows 8 64 bit and not having this issue?

Question 2 is anyone running the Nvidia Geforce GTX 770M and not having this issue?

I am no developer so can only work by process of elimination

Hi James, have emailed primesense and posted on their forum but no response yet. Just emailed another contact there so hopefully they will reply.

Cheers, Joe

I'm running an Asus with a 670MX chip, Windows 8 and 4 USB3 ports and am not experiencing this problem ("Not enough USB..."). I'm suing both a Kinect for Window and a Primesense Carmine 1.09. However, the problem I do face is that only certain USB3 ports are fully powered so if I stick the Primesense sensor in there, it really buggers things up (low framerates, etc). I'm now in the process of spray painting in bright day-glo orange the two POWERED ports so I don't mix them up again. Did I mention that I hate PCs?

Just a quick comment, we've had some people mentioning that using a
USB 2.0 hub could help in certain cases, you may want to try that.

I have to laugh as somebody (was it you Rui?) mentioned trying that very thing.

Okay maybe its the GPU?

Is anyone running Nvidia Geforce GTX 770M and not having this problem?

I had suggested not having anything else plugged in. Like a mouse, just to see if there is any bottle necking going on or driver spats or whatever.
A USB hub is an interesting idea. Powered?

It would have to be powered. I'm going to do some experiments tomorrow and report back. Sorry but I think we just hijacked this thread. I'll post results in separate thread.

Finally got some feedback from Primsense on this issue.

They are aware of a bug with the latest Intel chips / windows 8 and are working on a fix. As soon as I hear any more I will post here.

Cheers, Joe

Received from primesense today hopefully fixes the issue:

PrimeSense is proud to announce the latest firmware update (5.9.2) for the Carmine 1.09 close range sensor.

The Release Notes describe the installation instructions in full, as well as all the features included in the release. These can be downloaded from
