Help, Need some advice

My husband and I are both somewhat computer dunce when it comes to
hardware. We need some advice.

We have two hard rives a C: and D: , every once and a while our
computer decides that D: is not there anymore. We have went into CMOS
and ran Auto detect, changing default selection numerous times and still
it will not detect it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
