Answer

I use TCP Shield for protection agains such attacks.
You can find it at http://www.softforces.com/ntsec.htm

Amen!

The attack is not based upon the traditional methods, where a firewall or
anything is useful. The fact that the massive number of packets have to be
identified as spurious and rejected means that CPU time will max out as well
as bandwidth.

The best way to protect against DoS attacks is to properly configure routers
to drop such "trash" and shield the actual server (computer) from it.

have you thought about setting up a set of VPNs to mitigate this problem?
If you would like more information about them and a potential VPN solution,
drop me a note and perhaps I have the answer to a number of your problems.

How would a VPN possibly protect you against DOS attacks? If your
computer is way too busy dealing with too much crap coming in from the
internet, how can a VPN connection expect to be established?
