The South Junction Triangle Residents Association would like to inform
you about several important events this week. The railway projects
that are proposed for this area will have very significant impacts on
our community, so please attend these meetings if possible. You can
contact us at in...@southjunctiontriangle.ca with any comments,
questions, or concerns.
METROLINX "GEORGETOWN SOUTH SERVICE EXPANSION": OPEN HOUSE
When: Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 3:00pm – 8:00pm
Where: The Lithuanian House, Hall B, 1573 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON
Metrolinx and GO Transit are planning to significantly increase
railway service along the Georgetown rail corridor that borders the
western edge of our neighbourhood. This will include more frequent GO
trains, the Airport Rail Link (aka "Blue 22"), as well as major work
to expand the number of tracks in the corridor.
Although this is a major increase to public transit in western
Toronto, there are many people in the communities along the corridor
concerned about the pollution from the frequent diesel train service.
Many people are asking for Metrolinx to accelerate the electrification
of this rail corridor to reduce local pollution.
Please come to this meeting to find out more information about the
project, and to provide feedback to Metrolinx, GO Transit, and our
political representatives.
More information about this meeting, including web links about the
project can be found on our website:

GO TRANSIT "DAVENPORT DIAMOND GRADE SEPARATION" OPEN HOUSE #1
When: Wednesday April 22 2009, 5:30 to 8:30pm
Where: St. Josaphat's School, 55 Pelham Ave.
GO Transit is planning another rail grade separation project in our
neighbourhood. The current "West Toronto Diamond" grade separation
near Dupont and Osler is ongoing, but GO Transit want to do a similar
project at the "Davenport Diamond" near Dupont and Campbell.
According to Councillor Adam Giambrone's office, GO Transit is
planning to create a massive railway overpass structure along the east
side of our neighbourhood. Although we do not have any details about
this project yet, there will likely be significant short-term and
long-term impact. In the short-term, there will be more railway
construction (potentially very loud), and in the long term, this may
even require the closure of the Wallace Ave. railway crossing, with
elevated trains passing by the eastern edge of our neighbourhood.
It will be very important for members of our community to attend this
meeting to find out what the details of the plans are, and to demand
that our community's needs are kept in mind.
