1) FUZZY BOUNDARIES FILM NIGHT - THE TRAVELLERS - Thurs. Nov. 12

During a recent discussion on the Fuzzy Boundaries web site
(http://www.fuzzyboundaries.ca/), someone mentioned that a member of
the Canadian folk group The Travellers lives in the neighbourhood. It
got the Fuzzy folks wondering and after a little research they found a
recent NFB documentary about the group. They have invited the band
member to join them for a special screening of the film "The
Travellers" this Thursday, November 12 at 6:45 p.m. at the
Perth/Dupont location of the Toronto Public Library (1589 Dupont).

The film tells the story of Canada's first folk group which included a
longtime neighbourhood resident. If you remember the song "This Is
Your Land, This Our Land" you will know The Travellers. Come early,
seating is limited and it's free. You'll discover a bit of forgotten
Canadian music history with a connection to our neighbourhood.

The Fuzzy Boundaries neighbourhood naming project was also featured in
the media several times recently. Global TV featured a story on the
October 21st evening news, which you can watch online here:
http://www.southjunctiontriangle.ca/node/474

Also, on October 16th the popular website BlogTO and daily newspaper
t.o.night published a story about the Fuzzy Boundaries names that were
listed on the Railpath. You can see that story, plus many pictures
and video here:

2) DAVENPORT DIAMOND RAIL GRADE SEPARATION PROJECT - UPDATE FROM GO TRANSIT

It has been a while since we last heard from GO Transit about the
Davenport Diamond Grade Separation Project. The last meeting took
place on April 22 2009, with very poor notice given by GO Transit.

In short, this project proposes to grade-separate the railway tracks
that run along the east side of our neighbourhood (between Campbell
and Lansdowne) and the CN Tracks on the north side of our
neighbourhood (between Dupont and Davenport). This would involve
creating a huge wall/overpass or trench east of Campbell Ave., with
the possibility of closing Wallace Ave. Whatever the outcome of this
project is, it will have a major impact on our neighbourhood.

In this latest update, we find out that the Davenport Diamond Grade
Separation has been rolled into a much larger environmental assessment
for the expansion of GO Transit's Barrie Line. You can read the
update online here:

3) HELP THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB AND ART STARTS

A click of your mouse could help a couple of local neighbourhood
groups who are trying to raise some money through the Aviva Community
Fund. The Perth Outreach location of the Dovercourt Boys and Girls
Club and the award winning Art Starts group who did the fabulous mural
on the Dupont underpass are both in the second round of the Aviva fund
raising process. You could help them by simply logging onto the Aviva
site and voting for the projects. The process to register to vote is
very simple and you won't be swamped with junk mail. You can vote once
every day and vote for as many projects as you like. Your effort could
go a long way in helping both groups reach their goals. The links for
each project are included below and we want to say thank you on their
behalf for voting.

4) GLIDDEN PAINT SITE - REMEDIATION IS COMPLETE

Environmental and soil remediation at the 370 Wallace lands (former
Glidden Paint site) is now complete. If you have been past the site
in the last few weeks, you may have noticed that the land is now
flattened and seeded with plants. It is ready to be sold to a
developer. Thanks to Scott Dobson for the update on this site. A
letter from Biogene is posted here:

5) WEST TORONTO RAILPATH IS OFFICIALLY OPEN

The West Toronto Railpath linear park along the west side of our
neighbourhood had its official opening ceremony on Friday October
30th, although many people have been using it since the Spring. Many
years of lobbying and hard work went into making this park a reality,
so it's great to see that the first phase is completed. Hopefully
Stage 2, linking it to the King and Strachan area will get started
soon. Links to media coverage and a video are here:

6) CARLTON PARK PUMPKIN LIGHTING

The fourth annual Carlton Park Pumpkin Lighting festival was a
success, and by all accounts a bigger event than previous years. A
very fun event for everyone who attended. You can see a writeup and
photos from the evening here:
