The host taroko machine has been dismantled by the college.  You can do the same exercise with other web site, e.g. sjsu.edu

I just did it using telnet to example.com port 80..  It connects although the result is not the same as web browser (telnet output is attached).

Any one of you like to do a wireshark capture on both web access and telnet access?  It will be a good study to compare the two wireshark captures.

A few of you sends me private email regarding this.  PLEASE send all non-personal questions to the discussion group.

For the telnet exercise, it should work with any SJSU web site.  I tried cmpe.sjsu.edu, ee.sjsu.edu.  Both works.

telnet ee.sjsu.edu 80
GET / HTTP1.1
.... then hit return TWICE
