I was trying to ping www.mit.edu, but it seems the IP address for MIT changed from time to time.
at first I got reply from  104.97.199.24, but then the reply was from 23.210.251.185.
So it is basically can show any class A IP address ?  as per my understanding, the PING should gave me the public IP address of mit.edu, which should be a constant IP.

Could anyone explain why is this happen ?
Thanks ~

bacause of load balancing and round robin DNS, a single host name has multiple ip addresses assigned
thstwhy you get diff ip wen doing ping

pls correct me if this isnt correct!

that's certainly possible... how about use trace route to analyze the whole path?

thanks for the reply ~~
the trace route is also different for different IP.
so the IP address depends on which server provides the service .
but I have a new question.
when tracert mit.edu, I cannot visit mit webpage using the ip address(23.203.59.35) I got from tracert.
but when I tracert sjsu.edu, I can actually get sjsu homepage when I type the IP (130.65.3.221) to my browser .
Why is that happen?
what is the different between the ip addresses I got from tracert mit.edu and tracert sjsu.edu?
Should they both be a temp IP ?

interesting question.  I don't know the definitive answer.  My hunch is that DNS RR record (remember that thing?) may be organized differently such that ping and web have different ip.
