Hello everyone,

My name is Mei-Yan Lu. I am a faculty in the Department of Educational
Leadership. I am interested in online teaching and emerging
technologies. I invited Dr. Paul Kim to share his expertise on mobile
empowerment and e-learning with Educational Leadership faculty on
Tuesday, Oct 6. I thought faculty in this group may be interested in
joining us. Dr. Kim was the Executive Director of Information
Technology for University of Phoenix for many years. Now, he is at
Stanford.

I suspect he will speak about mobile empowerment first. I heard his
talk before. I think the mobile learning device has great potential
for under-served children and adults. Next, he will present the the e-
learning model that we, as public institution, can learn from non-
traditional universities. I also put together a brief announcement
(see below) for the convenience of invitation. Please consider to join

Two Topics: "Mobile Empowerment for the Under Served", and "e-
Learning and Non-Traditional University Models"

Dr. Paul Kim is the first Chief Technology Officer for Stanford
University School of Education. He has been leading various academic
technology initiatives and teaching graduate courses related to
digital innovations in education since 2001. He is currently one of
leading researchers for Programmable Open Mobile Internet, an NSF
project to develop and evaluate a ubiquitous wireless mobile computing
model for K-20 students to engage in creative and inspiring
discoveries in both formal and informal learning environments. He is
also working with various international organizations in developing
self-empowering and sustainable education models for extremely under
served communities in developing countries. In addition, he advises
investment bankers and technology ventures focused on e-learning, Web
2.0 innovations, collective intelligence, and mobile communication
solutions. He has a Ph.D. degree in Educational Technology and
previously served as Chairman of the Board for Intercultural Institute
of California, Executive Director of Information Technology for
University of Phoenix, and Vice President & CIO for Vatterott College.
