The next topic of our biweekly discussions will be dealing with students who are not comfortable using technology.  As we introduce various technologies into the classrooms, we find that there are students who uncomfortable, unwilling, or unable to use these tools.  Come to IRC 101 on Monday from 2-3pm  and discuss how you have dealt with these issues in the past and ideas you have for dealing with them in the future.

Access to the meeting will also be available remotely via elluminate with the following URL

The next topic of our biweekly discussions will be strategies for asynchronous teaching and learning.  The use of podcasting, elluminate recordings, discussion forums, blogs and wikis for teaching and learning has greatly increased the amount of asynchronous teaching and learning, and often our usual practices from face-to-face teaching are insufficient in this asynchronous environment.   Come to IRC 101 on Monday from 2-3pm  and discuss how you have dealt with these issues in the past and ideas you have for dealing with them in the future.

Access to the meeting will also be available remotely via elluminate with the following URL

An archive of the meeting recording will be made available on the Technology Innovators Learning Community group page at http://groups.google.com/group/sjsu-technology-innovators

G'day Everyone -

While I cannot make it to the Monday meetings... I am excited about the topic this week... not exclusive I understand, but blogs and wikis... oh my!

I have my students construct both a topical blog [either ning.com. blogger.com, or wordpress.org] and a team topical wiki [wikispaces.com] as a part of the MCOM/APSC-63 "New Media" course over in JMC. They are required to "add" postings each week - rain or shine - and points are assigned at the end of the semester. These are incredibly wonderful and dynamic tools that offer both the student and teacher a lot of possibilities.

Ping me if you any questions or need specifics on my uses of the above Web 2.0 technologies.

cheers -

peter

Hi Everyone -

Just wanted to remind you that I will be putting on a "gathering of the minds" to discuss a series of new Web 2.0 technologies, software and web sites that have come down the 'pipe' over these past several months that we - as faculty - can use in our classrooms and with our students!

The mind-meld will begin at 12:30 in Bentel Hall, Room 226. If you have a bag or student union "Food Court"-supplied lunch... bring it and munch and watch/ask/interact!

I look forward to seeing you!

Cheers -

Peter

The next topic of our biweekly discussions will be communication with students.  As we have more and more tools to extend the classroom beyond the usual hour of lecture, how do we balance our desire to keep our students engaged in our course outside of class hours with the workload that arises from receiving emails, voice-mails, texts, tweets, blog posts and such 24 hours a day.  Come to IRC 101 on Monday from 2-3pm  and discuss how you have dealt with these issues in the past and ideas you have for dealing with them in the future.

The next topic of our biweekly discussions will be "crowdsourcing".  Using technology we can include students in the process of grading, creating assignments, and evaluating each others work.  This encompasses calibrated peer review which generated a lot of discussion for its possibilities at our last meeting for its potential to positively impact student learning, while also reducing our workload.  Come to IRC 101 on Monday from 2-3 pm to discuss how you have or could imagine including your students in parts of the academic process that is traditionally the realm of the instructor.

The last topic of our biweekly discussions for the semester will be educational uses of games.  From in-class quiz-show type games using clickers to massively multiplayer online games such as World of Warcraft and Second Life, technology is making it easier for us to present our content in fun ways that engage students.  Come to IRC 101 on Monday from 2-3pm  and discuss your ideas and experiences using games in (and outside of) the classroom.

The next topic of our biweekly discussions will be class web pages.  With all the internet resources available to us, from blogs and wikis to learning management systems, how do we present it all to our students?  What innovative things are faculty doing with their web pages to organize it all?  Come to IRC 101 on Monday from 2-3pm  and discuss how you have dealt with these issues in the past and ideas you have for dealing with them in the future.

The Technology Innovators Learning Community meeting will be on WEDNESDAY from 12-1pm, not Monday from 2-3 as mistakenly stated in the email.  I'm sorry for the confusion.
