At the last meeting we discussed the idea of having a meeting where we
demonstrate some innovative uses of different technologies. What
technologies and associated teaching techniques would people be most
interested in seeing demonstrated at a future meeting? The item being
discussed at the time was how you could monitor twitter in real-time
as you teach to get feedback from your students.

Good Evening Everyone -

I wanted to invite everyone to come join me for a faculty brown bag session this Friday at 12:30 over in Bentel Hall, Room 226.  I have attached the flier for this event... I will be covering all sorts of cool new [and useful] web 2.0 web sites... that we can collectively use in our classrooms.  I look forward to seeing/meeting you Friday afternoon!

Chers -

I'd be interested in seeing some sort of virtual whiteboard application. Not necessarily something that works with a real whiteboard, but maybe something where I could draw supply & demand graphs on my screen with my mouse or graphics tablet and students could see it.

Only Felix could take a perfectly good web page, cover it with perfectly good (digital) ink, and make the combination... this.

20 Minutes into the Future
Faculty Web 2.0 Seminar

Notes of Interest!

1) Everyone introduced themselves and it was a lovefest from the beginning. What was very interesting was that the group came from all-walks-of-work on campus --> Spectacular!

2) The following article was shown tot he group:

http://campustechnology.com/articles/2008/08/the-power-of-wikis-in-higher-ed.aspx

And it was suggested that all of us need to 'share these types of articles' with each other beyond simple searches, etc.

3) Demonstrated the following web site application:

http://www.mdialog.com/

Remember that you have to sign-up for a personal [free] account before you can use any of the site's applications!

4) Demonstrated Writer's Pub web site and indicated that this was a great place to go and have your written work posted and evaluated by other writers for free!

http://writerspub.com/

5) Demonstrated 280 Slides. Remember that you have to sign-up for a personal [free] account before you can use any of the site's applications!

http://280slides.com/

6) Demonstrated WikiSpaces and discussed the uses of wikis in the classrooms today. Peter Young talked about his "Pile-O-Information" wiki-based game where four students develop a topical wiki and compete against other teams for "Best Wiki".

http://www.wikispaces.com/

We spent a full 90+ minutes talking about lots of things Web 2.0 related. Peter hopes to have a second "Web 2.0 Faculty Seminar" and introduce lots more technologies and web applications in about three weeks. Stay tuned right here for more information!
