Why is Wednesday so happy? Well, I suspect because Odin says so, since it's
his day. Also because I am finally sending out a long-neglected Author Newsletter. You get to find out what I'm up to! Yay! And I get to cross something off my to-do list! Yay!
I'll keep it short and sweet, though. We're all busy. But I have been up to some author-y things over the past few months. In October I participated for the first time in the
Great Valley Bookfest in Manteca, CA, and gave a reading from my most recent YA novel,
The Truth Against the World. (
Read more about the book here.)
In January, I presented some tips for creativity at a local mixer for members of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. One of my favorite quotations from my presentation:
"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep."
–Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert
Next week I have a lot of fun stuff going on. First, on Feb. 24 I'll be presenting at the monthly meeting of the League of American Pen Women, Modesto chapter, a talk I decided to call "The Accidental Writer." And I'll be doing several Skype visits with schools to celebrate
World Read Aloud Day. I'm excited to get to read to and talk with middle school students in (so far) Florida, Maryland, and Minnesota.
In March, I'll be visiting AVID classes here locally at Prescott Middle School to talk about writing as a career.
