Connecting the Laptop with internet in IITB

Hello Everybody,

Welcome Back to the Google Group after Joining the SOM.

I guess I am the first one in the Batch to be able to use the IITB internet on my Lappy. :-)

Following is the procedure which may help to set your Lappy online:


Connect the LAN by WiFi in SOM or by LAN Cable in the Hostel.


Enter your IP Address in the Network Settings as follows:

1. After you are connected to LAN, Go to Network and Sharing.
2. Click on Network Connection > Properties
3. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4)
4. Then Click on Properties
5. Then Enter the IP Addresses as given to you.
(You can take it from from the Notice board of your Hostel. I am in Hosstel 1 and it is there on the notice boardboard)


In Internet Explorer, Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Setting.
Set the Proxy Server as below:

Address: netmon.iitb.ac.in
Port: 80

Click Ok and again OK.


Now Go the the following Address to Accept the Policy, Terms and Conditions of using the Internet.

http://www.cc.iitb.ac.in/cgi-bin/policy.cgi


Enter your credentials as follows:

LDAP ID: <Your Roll Number>
LDAP Password: <Your Date of Birth in DDMMYYYY format>

Click "Yes" and Submit.

Your LAN ID will be activated in 10 minutes after you Submit above..

After you can Enjoy the Internet...'



I was really happy to see the download Speed of 1.1 Mbps yesterday night in the Hostel 1. :-)
