Curing sweetpotatoes is an essential step after harvesting that heals wounds, enhances flavor, and increases storage life. You will learn the humidity, temperature, and timing recommendations for curing. Farmers and gardeners in Western Washington will share their curing set-ups, along with tips and lessons learned. Information will be shared for growers of all sizes.

3rd Annual Sweetpotato Field Day

Location: WSU Mount Vernon Northwest Research and Education Center, 16650 WA-536, Mount Vernon, WA Please register to attend! (registration is appreciated but not required)

Visit the sweetpotato fields at the WSU Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center in Mount Vernon to see common commercial varieties, purple-flesh varieties, varieties with more bush-like growth for better weed management, wireworm resistant varieties and unreleased breeding lines from the USDA sweetpotato program. View a side-by-side comparison of sweetpotatoes grown with black plastic mulch vs. no mulch. Results of research trials will be discussed, including ideal harvest times, and economic potential for dual-cropping sweetpotato greens and roots in Western Washington.

These events are brought to you by the WSU NWREC in Mount Vernon and the WSU Regional Small Farms Program
