Hi to you all,

I'm a new member, living in Tucson, Az, who happened upon your active and interesting looking imagers group...so I joined.

Things move fast in your group, apparently, and it looks like I'll be giving this month's talk on AI in image processing...this contribution to the conversation relied rather strongly on AI for it's detail (such as it is).

I hope you enjoy the image and will attend my talk later this month. Thanks for having me!

When I started into this image, my expectations for swirling detail were high...but I could not find it if it were there. So I turned this into a several-day exercise on how best to put the stars back in an image that was highly processed after the stars were removed. To obtain a view of the most detail possible and not blow out the stars, the nebula must be extracted and processed separately. But dropping the stars back into the highly processed image of the nebula is more complex than many image processors realize. There is not, at this time, a simple blending mode that does it correctly every time--at least that I know. (If you know of one, please tell me!)

If you click https://astrob.in/reu6bk/0/ you can see my image on Astrobin and read a description of the star-replacement method I used.

Thanks for looking....Alex
