I just became aware of new kid on the block for AI removing of stars, StarXTerminator:

Can be in PI or Photoshop, and is cross platform.

I'm testing a free trial in PI on Windows.

Looks great! Fewer Artifacts than with StarNet.

Nice Glenn, I will take a look, I am in the middle of some start removal exploration myself.

I found StarNet++ GitHub not updated since April.
And most of the Python code is 15 months old, some of the packages like Scipy are outdated. To run StarNet under Linux I need very old Scipy version.

Another thing, keep in mind that NVIDIA is constantly updating CUDA and GPU drivers. If StarNet is not updated regularly, at some point GPU driver won't be compatible.  I am currently running CUDA 11.4, and StarNet is almost two years older than the latest CUDA version.

I suspect StarXTerminator will run into the same problem, if the developed do not update often.

I used Starnet++ that’s integrated in Pixinsight for my first narrow band image that I processed on my Macs.  It seemed to work well and left only minor artifacts that I see.  I was glad it worked on both my 2016 iMac quad core 4GHz i7 and older model Mac Pro (2013-2019 model) with a 12 core 2.7 GHz Xeon processor.

I hadn’t even thought of the possibility of using Starnet as an intermediate step to remove stars for boosting other signals then adding them back.  I’ll have to give it a try.
