Our next SJAA Imaging SIG will take place over Zoom on Tuesday Oct 14, 2025 at 7:30pm.  I will present a talk entitled "Planning, Scheduling, and Astro-Imaging with KStars".

You can sign up for the event at Meetup:
https://www.meetup.com/sj-astronomy/events/304527330

You get the Zoom link from there once you sign up.

We officially start the meeting at 7:30pm Pacific Time, but feel free to connect any time after 7pm. During the "early time" I'll make sure I can share screens, be heard, etc, but after that hopefully quick setup, we'll have open Zoom socializing until the meeting starts.

Planning, Scheduling and Astro-Imaging with KStars
Hy Murveit

KStars is a full featured planetarium and astro-imaging program. It is free, open source, and available on Linux, Mac and Windows. Hy Murveit, one of the program's developers, will give an overview, and delve into scheduling, planning and live stacking in a bit more detail. If the sky permits, there will also be a live demonstration. Check it out at https://kstars.kde.org/download/

Please consider volunteering to present a future SJAA Imaging talk!

We have openings for speakers in November '25 and all of 2026.  Please volunteer for a future talk. There are plenty of potential topics to choose from, or make your own. Here are some to consider, but other ideas are welcome too:
  • Comet astrophotography
  • Solar astrophotography
  • Here's how I take/setup my rig to my favorite remote site
  • How to collimate your telescope
  • My favorite new astrophotography-related gadget...e.g. new ZWO rotator
  • My favorite astrophotography-related processing technique...
  • The science behind this asto-picture...
  • Why I love my telescope/mount
Please don't be modest. You don't have to be a NASA chief scientist to speak to our group! We need you!
