Our next SJAA Imaging SIG will take place over Zoom on Tuesday July 15, 2025 at 7:30pm.  Tara Mostofi will present a talk entitled "Beyond the Horizon: Mastering Perspective and Alignment in Astrophotography".

We officially start the meeting at 7:30pm Pacific Time, but feel free to connect any time after 7pm. During the "early time" we'll make sure Tara can share screens, be heard, etc, but after that hopefully quick setup, we'll have open Zoom socializing until the meeting starts.

Mastering Perspective and Alignment in Astrophotography

Tara Mostofi will be discussing  how to utilize photo planning tools like PhotoPills and Planit to align celestial objects, and how lens/telescope choice and distance from a foreground element can dramatically impact an image.

Tara will  review how precise planning with these digital applications combined with advanced post processing techniques can be used  to create images with a greater sense of depth and scale, and maybe give you a new perspective on your astrophotography. We'll cover a spectrum of scenarios, from meticulously planning long-focal-length moon silhouettes  to integrating  deep space objects with a compelling terrestrial scene. Tara has fallen in love with the night sky through the art of photography. It has revealed the hidden wonders of the cosmos and given her a deeper appreciation of her place in the universe. Having an alignment addiction has created many memorable adventures along the way.
