Hi all,

Sixfoot Track Marathon 2011 has come and gone. If you are interested
in running next year, please see some important changes regarding
qualification below.

Firstly congratulations go to Andrew Lee and Anna Frost on their
victories.

The results were live on the day, and for those who don't yet know
they can be found at http://www.sixfoot.com/results.php and directly
at http://www.multisportaustralia.com.au/results.aspx?EventID=790

This year we had 877 starters (i.e. we couldn't add any more) and 842
finishers under the 7hr cut off

The photos are up and can be found http:/www.supersportimages.com/,
click on 'view photos' at 6Ft Track Marathon and search by bib # or
name.

Despite the four seasons’ weather, everything went well during the
run, importantly no medical dramas, but there are a few logistical
things that we can improve on- race pack/merchandise distribution,
buses, toilets, food even and we will be working with those involved
to make things smoother.

For now- no we are not planning/organising next year yet- we have to
get a few things about next year out of the way and into the memory
bank.

Qualification:

The qualifiers we have at present will remain as is- unless our data
show any to be too hard/soft. We are hoping to benchmark further
qualifiers around the country so that people have more options and our
wave selections are even better.
See http://www.sixfoot.com/entrycriteria.php for the current list.

Qualification will be shortened to 12 months pre entry- 9 months
left.

If you have finished this year then you are already qualified and have
nothing to worry about.
If you are a previous finisher and didn't run/finish this year you
will have to re-qualify.
Novices have to qualify as per the criteria, within the 12 month
period.

This won't 'make it harder' to qualify- that hasn't changed. Veterans
with older 6ft times (especially the marginal times) and novices
without evidence of current form were over represented in the DNF
list.
This is not difficult task. Sixfoot is a tough race, a serious race
and an iconic race and within the cohort of people who indulge in such
things, surely a 'less hard' race within the last 12 months is not too
much to ask. It is not City to Surf where people jump off the couch
every year.
Sixfoot has also been different in the last two years in that the
capacity is now limited, with the demand ever increasing. So it is
incumbent on those that want to do it, to show 'current form'.

I just wanted to get the above out of the way early in the year so
that people have enough time to plan. As I said, most of you
(finishers) are already ok, but please pass it on to your fellow
runner who is thinking of doing it.

I will also email this to the wider subscription email newsletter, so
apologies in advance if you get more than one copy.

On that note, whilst we try to regularly update the website, race
booklet etc, we are volunteers with day jobs, so cannot always have
things current like in a big corporation with document version
control.:-) For that reason important changes such as the above will
always be announced by email by me. You are hearing it from 'the
horse's mouth', so it is in your interest to provide an email that is
regularly accessed, doesn't block our emails as spam and isn't prone
to send me 'out of office' replies.
Please pass that on to others too (since I am probably preaching to
the converted with this group email).

All the best for a safe, injury free and successful rest of 2011 and I
hope to see you at the start line next year.

cheers,

Colin
