All the World Cup tiebreaker rules and knockout round scenarios, explained

Why I Dream of an African World Cup Victory

"After centuries of colonization and exploitation and decades of dashed hopes on the pitch, I want to see an African country get an equal place on the world stage."

England fans cause outrage singing about Hitler in World Cup city once invaded by Nazis

"English football supporters have caused outrage by singing an anti-Semitic song and throwing Nazi salutes in a local pub before England's World Cup match in Volgograd, [nee Stalingrad] where more than a million Soviet soldiers died to stop the German blitzkrieg.

In a video that was circulating on social media on Wednesday, men can be seen singing a racially offensive song about Tottenham Hotspur in the Galereya Pub in Volgograd.

An employee at the pub told The Telegraph that the incident had occurred on Monday before England beat Tunisia 2-1 at the new Volgograd Arena.

Three men are seen throwing Nazi salutes during the anti-Semitic song, which makes reference to Hitler and Auschwitz, and has been associated with some Chelsea supporters in the past.

The incident threatens to cause tensions between countries during a World Cup that has otherwise been overwhelmingly friendly." [Despite the scores of pre-Cup articles from Western press warning about Russian homophobia. Russian racism, and Russian hooligans.]

Photos: Soccer Fields Around the World

"One of the most appealing aspects of soccer is its simplicity—a ball, some open space, goal markers, and you can play. As the 2018 World Cup kicks off in Russia, with matches held in massive modern arenas, here is a look at the beautiful game in action in some smaller and more unusual venues around the world, including pitches built on a glacier, on a beach, floating in a river, made of straw, on a rooftop, and more."
