The local open source geospatial users group (CUGOS:
http://groups.google.com/group/cugos) is starting a short project this
weekend which looks very interesting! Matt Paulin is organizing it,
and if you want to go, let him know. Looks like fun!

Here is the project vision:
The purpose of this project is to provide residents with a web
application to comment on transportation issues in their area. This
can be any problem from a pot hole to a bridge that needs to be
constructed. The secondary purpose of this project is to provide a
learning experience for technology enthusiasts to practice their
skills with mapping, and web applications. This project will be built
over the course of many weekends and when people feel like
contributing.

Hi all,

We are going to build roadflaw.com on Saturday. We are going to try
to get this running with 6 hours of development using GeoDjango (a
mapping varient of Django), Python, and PostGres (with postGIS which
gives you lots of cool spacial sql commands). Dane Springmeyer (our
local expert in GeoDjango) will be here to help guid us through using
the different chunks of software. This project is intended more to be
fun and educational, not really profitable. Think junkyard wars meets
6 hour startup. If you have any desire to join in, I have about 9
spaces left.

If you are interested please email me.

Here are the logistics details.
Sept 27 at the PugetWorks office in Fremont 10am-5pm
Our address is 600 N 36th St #208, Seattle WA 98117
Its very close to the Lenin Statue in the same building as Kinkos.

This is the spec for the project is here.

I have purposely tried to keep it as simple as possible. There are a
lot of possibilities for extra features and I'm sure we will add them.
But, not on the first pass. If we get the core built quickly we can
add some more features for the rest of it.

It would also be good for you to run through the homework assignment
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd9th8k2_21f89h58cp
to get up to speed on how some of these technologies work. If you
don't have much familiarity with these tools and practices it is going
to be a big rampup but, it will be worth it.

If you run into questions or problems, please feel free to contact me.
