Hi,

I just installed Sitewhere and I am very existing playing with it. I discover little by little features by exploring the example "construction site".

I am not sure I fully understand the logic behind device assignment and asset. Indeed, apparently device MeiTrack MT90 can be assigned to Caterpillar 324E Excavator for example. On the "asset management" section there is one Caterpillar 324E Excavator declared. I assume it is more a "type"  than an instance. However, on the site view ("assignment" panel), there are definitely several Caterpillar 324E Excavator,  but I can't figure out where to declare them. I am missing something on this point?

Thank you for your help,

Regards,

We currently support both models. You can use the assets as a "type", in which case you would need to store any identifying information such as a vehicle id number as part of the device assignment. The other approach would have many different assets of the same type in the asset store and the VIN would be stored as a property on the asset. Depending on the application, both methods are valid.

Thanks,
Derek
