modify hardwareID

Hi,

Is there a way to easily change hardware id while the device is assigned and in production?

In the end I want to find out if I can change hardware id of a device without releasing the assignment (data still intact)

We don't currently support changing the hardware id for a device, since it is needed to keep referential integrity with other system data. One potential solution would be to have an internal and external hardware id. The internal id would not change, while the external id could be modified. We can look at this for SiteWhere 2.0, but it's not currently supported.
