How does an African American avid reader select a book? Is it a
requirement to read an African American author? Is there a feeling of
disloyalty if another author of another race is read? Should avid
readers be loyal to literature instead of race?

I believe that a person who truly enjoys the adventure and serenity that comes from reading books does not mind whether or not the author is African-American. I believe that it is more important to read books that interest you regardless of race. Also if it is a book about political views, then I believe that it is okay to get different viewpoints on the same topic of interest for conversational purposes maybe.
