BOOK CLUBS AND BOOK LOVERS -- Hold on to your hats and get ready for a
weekend to remember. California is about to experience its first
official celebration of African American authors, literary giants in
their fields, and the book lovers who support them. This is a time to
honor the book club members who faithfully support their favorite
authors. A time to celebrate the written word . . . . especially
written as only African American authors can write – giving tribute to
who we are as a people, testifying to our rich heritage, drawing on
memories of times pas. Writers from every genre will share their lives
with you, their experience and reason for writing – all the while
bearing their souls while telling of what it is like to write Black in
America. This promises to be a weekend filled with inspirational
motivation sparked by events book lovers are sure to remember. A
weekend to meet your favorite authors face to face, get to know who
they are and purchase their books.
Thursday evening – Early registration at the hotel – and who knows
what authors you might meet in the lobby or having a drink in the
bar. . . .
Friday –Breakfast (with a featured author), lectures, panel
discussions, lunch (with a featured author), more lectures and book
signings by your favorite authors, followed by a reception where you
can meet, greet and mingle with the award winning authors on Friday
evening. Come meet Terry McMillan, J. California Cooper, Tananarive
Due, Steven Barnes, Tina McElroy Ansa, Mary B. Morrison, Donna Hill,
ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Virginia DeBerry, Donna Grant, Victor
McGlothin, Travis Hunter, and many more. . . . . .
Saturday – Breakfast (with a featured author), lectures, panel
discussions and book signings with the authors you didn’t get to see
on Friday, followed by a special “Bernard’s B-List Awards” ceremony
and dinner. Bernard’s B-List is the A-List for African American
Authors – drum roll please -- Academy Awards look out!!!
Sunday – Early a.m. “Sunday Go To Meeting” – gospel music to sing to
your heart’s content and inspirational authors to speak words that
touch your soul. We promise not to keep you beyond noon when we say
our final good-byes – until we meet again in 2010!!
