Dear Colleagues,

In case these words are not in your streets yet, we are excited to announce that the call for workshop proposals for the 2026 Deep Learning Indaba hosted in Nigeria is open!

Deep Learning Indaba is the annual gathering of Africa's machine learning and AI community! It is a living and growing expression of what our continent builds when given space, trust, and community. In 2026, as the world races toward AGI, we turn our focus to Sovereign Intelligence: the ability for Africa to build, steward, and understand its own systems, its own data, and its own scientific direction.

While academic-style workshops remain central, we recognize that ideas can be “workshopped” in other forms: through dialogue, creativity, and collective reflection. To nurture this spirit, we are opening up new session formats that invite imagination and inclusivity. In addition to traditional half-day workshops (3-4 hour program), we invite proposals for independent sessions of 1-2 hours that could include panels, fireside chats or podcast-style conversations, interactive exhibitions, storytelling spaces, showcases, or any other unique formats that go beyond the standard half-day workshop program format.

Key Dates:

  • Proposal Submission Deadline: 20 March 2026

  • Acceptance Notifications: Approximately two weeks after the submission deadline

Submission and Format:

  • Proposals must be submitted via OpenReview. Please ensure you create your OpenReview profile well in advance of the deadline. If you encounter any issues with this process, please reach out via the email at the bottom.

  • Proposals should include a title, list of organizers, keywords, a short summary, and a PDF following a specific template.

  • Each accepted workshop will receive:

    • Half-day workshops: 2 free registration tickets for organizers and 4 free registration tickets for speakers.

    • Short sessions: 2 free registration tickets for organizers, and the number of speaker tickets will depend on the session type

  •  Note that these tickets do not include travel or accommodation funding.

Why Submit a Workshop Proposal?

  • Contribute to strengthening and celebrating African AI.

  • Showcase your research and expertise to a diverse and engaged audience.

  • Shape the conversation around important topics in AI and machine learning.

  • Network with leading researchers, practitioners, and students from across Africa.

We look forward to receiving your proposals and to an inspiring Deep Learning Indaba 2026 in Nigeria!
