Data Science for Social Impact (DSFSI) research group at the University of Pretoria, We are delighted to invite you to our next DS4Society Webinar, featuring Dr Udunna Anazodo, Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University, Canada. 🗓 Date: Friday, 24 October 2025 About the TalkArtificial Intelligence (AI) holds transformative potential for diagnostic imaging, especially in resource-constrained healthcare systems. However, its promise remains limited by enduring structural challenges that hinder implementation across African contexts. In this talk, Dr Anazodo will outline the key barriers that restrict the use of AI in medical imaging in Africa and propose a roadmap for enabling innovation and local application of AI to address healthcare needs in the region and other similar settings. This webinar aims to open a dialogue on how African researchers, clinicians, and technologists can work together to ensure that AI innovation in medical imaging is inclusive, contextually relevant, and sustainable. About the SpeakerDr Udunna Anazodo completed her PhD in Medical Biophysics at Western University and was a MITACS Accelerate Fellow at the Lawson Health Research Institute. She currently leads the Multimodal Imaging of Neurodegenerative Disease (MiND) Lab at the Montreal Neurological Institute, where her team develops PET and MRI techniques for quantitative neuroimaging. Beyond her lab, Dr Anazodo is a leading advocate for improving access to diagnostic imaging in Africa. She is:
Her work exemplifies the intersection of cutting-edge science, capacity building, and equitable access to technology in global health. 📩 Enquiries: dsfsi...@up.ac.za Postgraduate students, supervisors, researchers, and anyone interested in the future of AI and medical imaging in Africa are warmly invited to attend.
